Dynamic health solutions hormone therapy

Deborah C. Escalante

I also decided to do the scan and take treatments, since I was already traveling for her appointments. I have struggled over the years with emotional “instability”, and I thought, due to hormones, I was currently going through another “spell”. However, when we did the scan, it became clear that some of the issues I was facing (mood swings, sleeplessness, anxiety) might have more to do with my brain function than hormonal imbalance. Since I am a middle-aged adult, obviously my brain has a lot more training to do (the whole “old-dog-new-tricks” thing), however, after 3 rounds of training sessions and the use of the AVE unit, I have definitely seen an improvement. My husband says that my patience level is greatly increased, and episodes of despair and anxiety are greatly reduced. I am also sleeping better at night.

There is a lot of interest in hormone therapy for menopausal women. Recent studies and media publicity have left the public confused about this issue. A significant number of women will have enough symptoms at the time of menopause to need some form of therapy to maintain or return to a normally functioning lifestyle. There are many forms of hormone replacement that work well to alleviate symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, depression, insomnia, vaginal dryness, and other problems related to hormone loss.

What is Hormone Therapy?

Hormone replacement therapies help to make the transition through menopause or andropause a bit easier by providing a solution to a number of troublesome symptoms like hot flashes, vaginal dryness, loss of libido, and more.

Some basic principles of hormone replacement, no matter what type is used, are that while they may improve function they DO NOT increase or decrease life expectancy. While they may alter some risks of disease that one may get such as heart disease, breast cancer, and osteoporosis, their overall effect on life expectancy is not changed. This applies to all forms including bioidentical hormone therapy.

HORMONE OPTIMIZATION

Hormones are powerful messengers in the body and play an important role in many body systems and processes. They can affect your mood, sexual function, and metabolism for example.

As you age your hormone levels begin to decline, leaving your body in an unbalanced state. This is where hormone optimization can be beneficial and in some cases, life-changing.

Since hormones are so powerful, even a little bit can make a big change. This is why it’s important to consult with a physician and be monitored while being on hormone optimization. Dr. Botha is committed to your health and will be with you every step of the way.

If you’re not sure if this is right for you and want to learn more, consultations are always free.

About Melanie Martin, PA-C

Melanie Martin, PA-C, is Dr. Berutti’s Physician Assistant who has been practicing medicine for a total of 30 years. About halfway through her career, she realized that the “conventional medicine” approach wasn’t always meeting her patients’ health goals and that the gaps in that system did not promote wellness and optimal health. Melanie decided that she could better help people by using a more integrative approach so she decided to make a career change 14 years ago so that she could do just that. Melanie believes that the key to truly helping patients is to be able to spend plenty of time with them in order to have ample opportunity to listen to their needs. She incorporates a collaborative approach so that everyone feels involved, educated, and empowered with their personal health care. Melanie wasn’t born in Texas, but like most transplants, got here as soon as she could! She moved to Fort Worth at a young age and has stayed in the area ever since. She’s a lover of the Arts and is a member of the Kimball Art Museum. Melanie also enjoys spending time with her 20-year-old son who attends Texas A&M University. She has trained and worked under some of the top functional medicine practitioners in the area and is happy to be a part of Dr. Berutti’s team so that she can continue to learn from Dr. Berutti’s vast areas of expertise. She’s also excited to focus on helping her patients get to the root cause(s) of their symptoms and illnesses so they can achieve optimal health and wellness. Dr. Berutti and our staff are very happy to have Melanie be a part of our team! Not only is she an experienced Physician’s Assistant, but she is also considered an expert in her field, having provided lectures to her peers on subjects including hormone balancing, nutrition, weight loss, and gut inflammation. We are confident that our patients are going to love her and her commitment to their health care!

Our Protocols at DLHC in Southlake, Texas

At the beginning of your treatment, you will need at least two in-depth appointments, which will be approximately 3 to 4 weeks apart. More complex diagnostics and treatment plans may require three or more appointments. Before your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out a Health Questionnaire, a Sleep Questionnaire, and an Adrenal Questionnaire. Completion of these in-depth forms is vital to the treatment process and will help get to the root cause of any issues you are experiencing. Your first appointment will be 90 minutes long. Long appointments allow our patients to have quality time with their providers to be able to address their symptoms and concerns without being rushed. We trust you will find that going through this process of extensive examination and testing will be well worth your investment in time. Your labs will be drawn after your first appointment. For female patients, if you have a menstrual cycle, we generally try to schedule your lab work to be done between day 19 and day 22 of your cycle (day 1 being the first day you start your period.) At your second appointment, your provider will very thoroughly review all lab results with you and give you an interpretation of those lab results. Based on your symptoms, history, and personal lab results, she’ll discuss your specific diagnosis and treatment plan to address deficiencies, imbalances, and other issues. Please be aware that our providers do not prescribe narcotic pain medication.

Other Services

We offer existing patients other services as well. Dr. Berutti and her PA, Melanie Martin, both offer Wellness Visits for both men and women. Additionally, we accept all patients who are experiencing acute symptoms of illness. ** We are proud to offer these services to all of our patients so that you do not have to worry about seeing different doctors for your health care needs. ** Due to COVID-19, we are currently not seeing patients experiencing respiratory illnesses until further notice. Insurance Coverage

In terms of your office visit, we are an out-of-network provider. The reason for this is that when a practice chooses to accept insurance, insurance companies tell the practice how much time they can spend with each patient, what illnesses and conditions they can treat, and how they can treat them. In order to get to the root cause of various non-optimum conditions and provide optimal treatment, we find we need more time with our patients and more treatment options than insurance companies are willing to work with. If you have a PPO plan, it is possible that your insurance company will reimburse you for much of your office visit costs. This depends on your insurance company, what type of plan you have, and your deductibles. You will pay for the appointments at the time of service and we will provide you with the necessary papers to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider. If you are on an HMO plan, most likely your insurance will not cover any of the costs of your office visits and your lab work will need to go through your Primary Care Physician or you can utilize our discount program.

Your insurance will frequently be able to cover all or a majority of your lab work. Labs ordered by Dr. Berutti and PA, Melanie, are typically covered the same as if they were written by your regular doctor which is 90 to 100%. You should however ask your insurance company how they cover the labs and which lab network is preferred. We will make sure that any labs ordered are done through this preferred provider. If your insurance provider does not offer to cover a majority of the lab work or if it is being applied to your deductible we recommend that you use our discount program for labs. To find out what your insurance will cover, we encourage you to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask a few basic questions. 1) First of all tell them that you’re going to see an out-of-network provider (someone that is not on the insurance’s list of doctors). Most PPO plans understand that people would prefer to see a doctor that they researched or that comes highly recommended by a friend. Ask your insurance company what the deductible is and what percent they will reimburse for the office visit with an out-of-network doctor or nurse practitioner. 2) When talking to your insurance customer service, tell them that your out-of-network provider is going to order very comprehensive lab work. Ask them specifically what percentage of the lab costs they will pay. If it is 90-100% you are better off using your insurance. If they will cover less than 75% you will be better off using our laboratory discount program.
